The stupendous and
legendary Malayalam singer who has more than 50,000 songs to his collection of
work turned 77 on 10 January. He
celebrated the birthday at Kollur Sri Mookambika temple.
Yesudas is one of the
most versatile playback singers in the Indian film industry. He has sung songs
in Tamil, Kannada, Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam and many other Indian languages.
His repository of songs includes Carnatic concerts, songs in films and
devotional albums. For years, he has been the main attraction of Carnatic
concerts held across the country and it is a divine pleasure of his fans to
listen to his spiritual songs.
His contribution to
Indian music industry cannot be described in a few words. He has won many
national awards like Padma Shri in 1975 and Padma Bhushan in 2002 by the
government of India for his great contribution towards arts. He has also won several
National Awards for the best male playback singer and the state playback singer
award 43 times.
