Soorya Krishnamoorthy’s Daughter’s Wedding

In a society where high-end wedding extravaganza is a normal thing to do, especially on the celeb circuit, there exist a few celebrities who break the stereotype and believe in the art of simplicity. Leading this example is Soorya Krishnamoorthy who wedded off his daughter in a low-key affair in the presence of friends and family members, embarking on a new trend in the world of celebrity weddings for the future generation to come.

Art connoisseur Soorya Krishnamoorthy is no ordinary name in the culture of South India. The patron of art and culture he is, not only does he kept the wedding low key, but also added philanthropically touch to his daughter’s wedding. You might be wondering, how? He took the bold step to avoid all sorts of luxury and glamor for the wedding of his beautiful daughter Sita and was an inspiration for one and all.

The wedding of Sita, a Civil Services Academy trainee and her batchmate Chandan Kumar, who hails from Bihar took place in a small puja room at the Thaikkad House of Soorya Krishnamoorthy in Thiruvananthapuram marked by a small function. The most striking feature was the absence of a lavish feast for the guests who were served only payasam. The decoration, as well as all bridal outfits, was simple as well, making sure no element was grand or extravagant.

Not only that, the Soorya family pledges to use the money saved from the marriage for the purpose of education for 20 underprivileged children for the next 4 years. The invitation card was an eye opener for all the guests where the family had invited guests to bestow their blessings on the newly wed couple on the 13, 14 and 15 of the days before the wedding at their home and they even mentioned the precise hours to visit the house. Bringing any sort of gifts was simply forbidden, setting another trend for celebrity wedding as a whole.

The aid for the money received from donation was used to help the students from Model School, Government Arts College and College of Engineering in Thiruvananthapuram, the former one being the alma mater of Krishnamoorthy himself. The amount was handed over to the principal later as part of the charity activity.

Krishnamoorthy always believed in simplicity and always dreamt of conducting the wedding of his daughter without any pomp or grandeur. He was ecstatic when the groom’s family readily agreed to this decision and thus began a series of events leading to the noble cause. In all, around 15 lakhs, that was meant to be reserved for the wedding, was donated to the noble cause.

The bride kept her outfit to bare simple wearing just a single chain to wear the ‘thali’ as her ornament. She was also seen wearing a plain red saree without any heavy makeup or layers of jewelry to glam her up on the big day. The same goes true for the groom who chose a simple sherwani and no other glam outfit as this was a single ceremony wedding. Kudos to the power couple!
